11 David Short and his wife Jane Scott Short, of Virginia, were the parents of:

(1) Mrs. Sarah (David) Evans, who later married A. M. Spurlin; (2) George Washington Short; (3) Joseph Poague Short; (4) David T. Short, who first married Martha Henry, next Elizabeth Arnold; (5) Mrs. Jane P. (Sanders) Eaves; (6) William T., who married Elizabeth Greu; (7) Miss Elizabeth; (8) Jacob L., who married Emma Mitchell and who later moved to Texas; (9) Jonathan Short, who mar-
ried Lucy Wing; (10) Mrs. Susan Ann (William) Harbin.

Jacob Short was born August 20, 1772, and died October 26, 1858. His wife, Isabelle Scott Short, was born August 18, 1787, and died October 19, 1860. They were the parents of: (1) Mrs. Mary (or Polly) (Samuel) Whitmer; (2) Mrs. Eva (Louis) Phillips; (3) Jacob (bachelor); (4) Samuel, who married Sarah Garst; (5) William, who married Nancy Miller, daughter of Captain Isaac Miller. Jacob Short's children lived in the lower part of Muhlenberg and in southern McLean County, where all of them were well-known people.

Jacob Jagoe was the father of three sons, Abraham G., Benjamin, and William Jagoe. These three brothers in their day were among the best-known farmers in the lower Pond River country.

My 6th great-grandmother, Arabella, was an early resident of Kentucky.  Her daughter, Alsey Anderson, who was born about 1770, married David Evans in Nelson County, Kentucky.

Here's a query that identified her as Arabella Burton/Borten, probably born in Chesterfield County, Virginia.  Another message expands upon the Burton family.

John Evans*, County Lieutenant of Monongalia County, writes to Philip Bush at Winchester applying to him for the means of purchasing provisions for the North Western Department and for the Militia... .  He had advanced all the money he could and can no longer get credit.

Indian Captives Who Were Early Residents of St. Marys, Ohio

 We were camped in Wapakoneta, Ohio, last week when I read that "Girty's Town" was nearby in present day St. Marys.  One of the Girty brothers participated in the capture of my ancestor, William Roark in a later known as Lochry's Defeat.

This week, while researching a seemingly unrelated story, I discovered that Shawnee captive George Ash also lived in St. Marys for a short time (the Girty brothers were also kidnapped by Native Americans).  George Ash was the step-brother of Alice (Anderson) Evans; Alice's daughter, Nancy Evans (my ancestress), was William Roark's daughter-in-law.

 Erected here in 1795 by General "Mad" Anthony Wayne, probably after the signing of the Greenville Treaty, on lands ceded by the Indians, this area was also the site of the signing of the Treaty of St. Marys in 1818 (the Indian campsites being to the south and west of this spot).  Located here prior to, and a little south of the fort, was the dugout and cabin of James Girty, of the notorious "Girty Brothers," giving rise to the area's original name, "Girty's Town."

The last line in the last paragraph:  "But, my mother was dead, and my father had married a second wife, who was not backward in letting me know that that was no place for me."

George Ash's step-mother was my ancestress, Mrs. Arabella Anderson Ash.

David & Alsey (Anderson) Evans In Kentucky

 Michael and Nancy Roark were my ancestors.  According to information found in a Rootsweb message, Nancy Roark was an heir of David Evans' estate [his daughter].  Obtaining the actual 1/31/1835 suit documents is a Muhlenberg Co., Kentucky, research goal.

The suit lists "David Evans and the heirs of David Evans Dec'd", and was filed 1/31/1835.  Persons in the suit:

Notes: Believe this David EVANS is Sarah's brother-in-law, married to her sister Alsey (Alice) ANDERSON Evans, 25 May 1787 in Nelson Co., KY. All are daughters of Arabella UNKNOWN Anderson (Ash) (Sturgeon) of Nelson Co., KY 2nd husband, John ASH, 3rd husband, John STURGEON.

Notes: At this time there is confusion as to how many "David EVANS" there actually were. There is convincing evidence of 3. Best evidence shows this David EVANS, annotated "Jr." is the son of David EVANS who married Alsey (Alice) ANDERSON in Nelson Co., KY, sister of Sarah ANDERSON Combs Walker.
