William Trousdale In Florida

The regiment to which he belonged joined General Jackson early in November, 1814, and, on the 6th day of that month the army moved against Pensacola, Florida... . On the day following the town was stormed and taken. While the fight was progressing in the streets the advance of our troops was checked at one point by a gun which raked a street, dealing death in its ranks.  In this emergency, William Trousdale, with several other daring spirits, rushed rapidly forward in the face of the enemy's fire, drove the gunners from the deadly piece, captured it, and thus removed the obstacle which had stopped the progress of our men. ...the 2d regiment, under the command of Colonel Trousdale, advanced to attack the Indian and negro settlements in that vicinity. They found all the towns abandoned, and discovered large trails of the enemy leading to the east and northeast. A negro, captured in one of the houses, reported that they had fled to the Wahoo swamp. The Tennesseans burnt three large towns, which were built of hewn logs, and appeared to have been constructed during the last spring and summer.  (Source)

Sir : I had the honor, on the 10th inst., to inform you of my contemplated march to the Withlacoochie. 

On the evening before my arrival, Colonel Randall, the adjutant and inspector general, was ordered, with Major Upshan, of the Tennessee brigade,- to advance with the spies under command of Captains Lauderdale and Wilson, and the front guard under command of Colonel Trousdale, and select an encampment about four miles from the river. In the performance of this duty, they surprised a party of the enemy, killed ten warriors, and captured eleven women and children.

"...Colonel [William] Davie, with unprecedented boldness, with a command not exceeding one hundred and fifty men all told, on the 20th of September, turning the right flank of the British army by a circuitous march, fell upon three hundred or four hundred of the enemy at Wahab's plantation. The attack was made at daylight. The surprise was complete.

The enemy left fifteen or twenty dead on the field and had some forty wounded. Davie got off safely with the captured horses and had only one man wounded. The enemy at once caused the farm buildings which belonged to Captain Wahab, then a volunteer with Davie, to be laid in ashes. Davie brought off ninety-six horses and their furnishings, and one hundred and twenty stand of arms, and arrived in camp the same afternoon, having marched sixty miles in less than twenty-four hours, including the time employed in seeking and beating the enemy. That evening Generals Sumner and Davidson arrived at his camp with their force of one thousand badly equipped militia.

Nickajack Expedition

"Maj. Ore, who had been detached...to protect the frontiers of Mero District, opportunely arrived at Nashville as the troops were concentrating for the Nickajack expedition... .

Upon the arrival of the Kentucky troops, Col. Whitley was given command of the entire force, and Col. Montgomery of the volunteers raised within the Territory."

"...[on September 7th] the army set out upon its march. It crossed the Barren Fork of Duck River near the Stone Fort, and arrived at the Tennessee on the night of the 8th. Of the individuals present at this expedition were Joseph Brown, son of Col. James Brown, whose melancholy fate is elsewhere recorded in this work; William Trousdale, afterward governor of Tennessee, and *Andrew Jackson.

I took the first twenty-five men in the saddle, Sergeant Boston Corbett, being the only member of my own company. Colonel Baker handed me photographs of the assassins of President Lincoln. He told me no troops had yet been in Fredericksburg, but that I must reach that vicinity with all dispatch. He introduced me to E.J. Conger and L.B. One led by Simmons had its headquarters in the Brushy Mountains, and the other, led by Wade, had its headquarters near the Yadkin river in Wilkes county."

"The house which Wade had chosen and fortified was situated near the road which leads from Wilkesboro to Lenoir...where valley road crosses the Yadkin river."  "This house belonged to some dissolute women by the name of Hamby, and after Wade had fortified it the name by which it was known was Fort Hamby." Bowman's (Canajoharie) Creek

"Rev. and Dear Sir, — " I have long wished some person would give the world a true history of that much-traduced and suffering people, the U. E. Loyalists; and I assure you that when your circular came I was greatly rejoiced to learn that they would at least get justice from such an able source as yourself; and if the plain narrative of the sufferings of my forefathers will assist you in the least in your arduous and praiseworthy undertaking, I will be exceedingly gratified."

"My great-grandfather emigrated from Germany in the reign of Queen Anne. He settled near the Mohawk river, at a creek that still bears his name *(Bowman's Creek). My grandfather, Jacob Bowman, joined the British army in the French war; at the conclusion of peace he was awarded 1,500 provements until the revolutionary war broke out." [Source]

*"Canajoharie Creek rises in the NE corner of Otsego County and runs N easterly across the Township of Canajoharie to the Mohawk River. It is a fine stream for mills has several falls, one of which has given its name to the Creek and Township. Its length is about 17 miles. It is sometimes, though improperly, called Bowman's Creek and has a small branch from Schoharie County, called Plattekill, or Flat Creek."  [Source]

Fenwicks And Giles

In 1753 Edward Fenwick married Mary Drayton, daughter of Thomas Drayton and by her had many children. After her husband's death, Mrs. Fenwick married William Gerard de Brahm, an engineer officer in the service of the colonies of South Carolina and removed to Philadelphia. Her will is dated 1805. 

"Of the next two Fenwick children, Selina and Matilda, little is known except that Selina was appointed sole executrix of her mother's will and Matilda married Robert Giles." (Source)
