G. W. And Angeline (Williams) Curtis

Angeline Williams, who married G. W. Curtis(s), was the niece of Betsey (Brown) Backus, the last wife of my ancestor, John Backus.

G. W. Curtis, Farmer, Section 15, P.O. Capac [Civil War veteran], was born in the State of New York in 1819, and was raised in the agricultural profession.  At the age of ten he was thrown on his own resources. He then worked on a farm till fifteen years of age.  From this time till he arrived at the age of twenty, he worked on a farm during the summer and attended school in the winter.  He then went to Pennsylvania, where he farmed it during the summer and followed lumbering during the winter till 1859, at which time he came to Michigan and located on his present home of 220 acres, which he has improved and is now working as a stock farm.

In 1841, he was married to Miss Angeline Williams, of Pennsylvania, and has four children--David F., Susan A., Robert M., Francis A., and John F., adopted.

The Gallaghers were related to Sam Ward, who was related to Eber Ward.  Hannah (Lammerson) Gallagher's sister, Elizabeth, married Sam Ward.

...his [Sam Ward's] older brother Eber Ward, father of the well known Eber B. Ward, James B Wolverton, first sheriff of the county, William Gallagher--both of these were nephews of Samuel Ward's wife--and Bela Knapp.  In 1823 he [Sam Ward] built in company with William Gallagher a saw mill and grist mill on land in section 15 of what is now China township which they bought from the government. Sam Ward's adopted daughter, Jane, married David Gallagher, who was the minor child of the aforementioned estate.

The Real McCoy(s) - Civil War Soldiers From St. Clair Co., Michigan

From Seeking Michigan:

Lola Rice married a descendant from the same McCoy family.  Emma McCoy, sister to the two soldiers listed above, married William Stage.  Their son, Charles Stage, married Lola Rice.  Lola was the daughter of Charles Logan and Mary Josephine (Johnson) Rice.  Charles Logan Rice was the first cousin of my great grandmother, Katie Rice.  Mary Josephine Johnson was the sister of my great-grandfather, James Dudley Johnson, so Lola was a double cousin.  (Katie Rice and James Dudley Johnson were my great-grandparents). The Johnsons and Rices historically had roots in Georgia, Tennessee and southern Illinois, not Michigan.
