My niece and nephew are decendants of a John Mack (father of Nancy Mack who married Simeon Humphrey).

According to the 1850 census, John Mack of Walton Co. was born in SC (roughly 1786), as was his wife, Nancy. I think that this Nancy was a Cherokee Indian.
John remarried on April 3, 1866, to Susan Pannell, b. abt. 1824.
Unless one of the descendants of the Scottish Macks of Connecticut (John Mack, from Inverness to Lyme Conn., 1669) migrated to South Carolina, I am beginning to wonder if the lineage may be Germanic instead.
