Murder (George Holmes, a physcian whose residence is Sorel, Quebec) committed near Kamouraska in the District of Quebec...perpetrator has taken refuge at Burlington, Vermont...using the name George Fly__...name of deceased is Rebille Tache

"In 1839 two new residents were involved in a murder trial. George Holmes, who lived in town, was in romantic pursuit of Joséphine d’Estimauville, who had been staying with family in William Henry. Holmes killed her husband Louis-Pascal-Achille Taché in the seigneury of Kamouraska. Holmes fled to the United States of America, and d’Estimauville was acquitted of any involvement. In 1970, Anne Hébert wrote a book, Kamouraska, about the affair, which was made into a film in 1973 by Claude Jutra." [Source]

Helen Davis Not Helen David Married George Beach

The book, Families of Early Milford, Connecticut, stated that George Landa Beach married Helen David.

The woman identified as Helen David was actually Helen Davis and was part of the family featured in the History of the Town of Rockingham, Vermont:...:

Nathaniel Davis (b. 1715) had a son Nathaniel who was the father of James Davis.  A daughter of James Davis and Amanda Grimes was Helen A. Davis, b. Nov. 1, 1843, m. July 1, 1872, George [Landa] Beach and had children Samuel and Charlie.

Helen's sister, Mary Jane Davis, married Arthur Lemuel Rice.  The Rices were the ancestors of my double cousin, Connie Brinley Butterfield.  Connie's Davis lineage extended to Walter Powers/Trial Shepard.

Before Oliver M. Hyde moved to Detroit, he was a resident of Vermontville, a town whose founders included Wait Squier, my grandkids' ancestor.

...sawmill was built by Oliver M. Hyde, afterwards a prominent citizen and mayor of Detroit, who was a large land owner in the towns of Vermontville and Kalamo.

The Beaman account books and papers, from Poultney, Vermont, 1820-1850, consist of several thousand documents; they contain information on western settlement, especially concerning Vermontville, Michigan.

Captain Martin Scott addressed a letter to Major B. F. [Benjamin Franklin] Larned dated 10 September 1845, that stated "you are authorized on receiving satisfactory evidence of my death to turn over to any one of my sisters the $33 00 in your hands by me this day for which I hold your receipt...".

Addressing the question of the instructions in the letter being approved as a probate document, the following information was added:  "...is a good will, Captain S. being in the Army, a soldier on his march, in an expedition to Mexico, then the seat of active war...".

Captain Scott, of the 5th Infantry, late of the State of Vermont, left no children and his wife was provided for.  Scott heirs listed here.

In 1846 he was at the battles of Palo Alto and Resaca de la Palma in Texas (Fold3).

Captain Scott was killed 8 September 1847 at the Battle of Molino del Rey, Mexico (per a document at Fold3).
