Descendants of Keziah Acklin & William Woods

A Tennessee Valley

Keziah Acklin (1778 - 1820) was the daughter of Christopher and Christian (Black) Acklin of Abingdon, Virginia.

Keziah Acklin married William Woods (1771 - 1848).  After their 9 June 1796 marriage at Abingdon, Washington Co., Virginia, they had 11 children.  At some point (probably between 1806 and 1809) the Woods family moved near Maryville, Tennessee.  After Keziah's death, William remarried and moved to Indiana.  William had 3 more children with his 2nd wife, Mrs. Mary (Hanna) Brown: Alfred Campbell Woods (b. 1821), Woodford Anderson Woods (b. 1824) and Nancy Jane Woods (b. 1827).

Their children included:

Keziah (Acklin) Woods is the sister of my presumed 4th great-grandmother, Elizabeth (Acklin) Hinds.

James Vance Acklin Woods

James Vance Acklin Woods (James V.A. Woods here, here, here, here, here, here) married Lucinda Fain.  He was the grandson of Christopher and Christian (Black) Acklin.

J. V. A. WOODS, M. D.,

Retired clergyman and physician, Greenwood, was born in Abingdon, Washington County, Virginia, February 24, 1804, and lived there till twelve years of age, then moved with his parents to Blount County, Tennessee, and remained there fifteen years; then removed to Johnson County Indiana, in 1831, and on the 10th day of December, 1832, was married to Lucinda Fain. She was born in Pulaski County Kentucky, January 16, 1816, who was the daughter of Colonel Fain who was a well-known soldier in the War of 1812.

William Washington Woods

  

William Washington Woods, the son of William and Keziah (Acklin*) Woods, married Patsy Houston.  "William Houston Woods, the son of Rev. William W. and Patsy (Houston) Woods, was born January 1, 1831, in Maryville, Tennessee... .  His mother was a first cousin of Gen. Sam Houston, of Texas fame."

*Keziah Acklin and my Elizabeth (Acklin) Hinds were sisters.


Sam Houston had a disastrous first marriage to Eliza Allen.  There is tangential connection to my family tree though Eliza's brother, who married a Trousdale:

 Eliza's brother, B. F. Allen, married Mary Louisa Trousdale, Governor Trousdale's daughter, and a relative of my ancestor, Mary "Polly" Trousdale.
