Florence was Edward Brown's sister and Edward Brown was my Great-Aunt June's first husband. She died on 30 Oct 1974. The obituary was published in the Flint [MI] Journal.
WIRKUS, Florence B. -- 11853 Curwood Dr., Grand Blanc, age 75, died Wednesday, October 30, 1974. Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Saturday at Brown Funeral Home, Dr. DAvid E. Molyneaux officiating. Burial in Sunset Hills Cemetery. Mrs. Wirkus will lie in state at the Brown Funeral Home, 1616 Davison Rd. Visitation 8 AM to 10 PM. Friends desiring may take contributions to the Genesee County Crippled Children's and Adult's Society, 1420 W. Third Ave., Flint. Mrs. Wirkus was born in Hubbel, Michigan, June 3, 1899, the daughter of Matthew and Hannah Brown, and she had been a resident of Flint and Genesee County for 40 years. She attended the First Presbyterian Church, was a former member of the Flint Golf Club, attended the University of Eastern Michigan, did Post Graduate Studies at University of Michigan, was a member of the American Association of University Women, the University of Michigan Alumni Association, the McLaren General Hospital Auxiliary, and she taught in the Flint School System for 35 years retiring in 1963. Surviving are: Husband, S. Howard Wirkus of Grand Blanc; son, Dr. John J. Pascoe; daughter-in-law, Mary Helen; 4 grandchildren, Donald J. Pascoe of Elkhart, Indiana, Laura Ann and William H. Pascoe both of Ann Arbor and Amy F. of Albion; nieces and nephews.
