The bulk of the collection consists of letters, 1879-1882, exchanged between George H. Rood of Peabody, Kan., and his wife, Helen Mars (Thomas) Rood, then living in Lapeer, Mich.

 In 1850 George H. Rood was living with his parents (father Orvis) and siblings in Lapeer County, Michigan.  Hellen Thomas was also in Lapeer and living with her parents, Harvey and Betsey and her siblings in 1850.

In 1860 George Rood was single and living at home with his mother, Almina, his brother, Alpheus, and sisters Diantha and Martha.  Hellen was still in Lapeer as well in 1860.
