Wheeler left his estate in Fairfield, colony of Connecticut

Josiah Wheeler joined the King's troops under Sir William Howe at Long Island (1776)

Assisted raising company - Prince of Wales American Regiment until death March 1782

Left widow with 3 small children who boarded transport ship to St. John's River in 1783

Request for relief signed by Thomas Hanford (of Carleton) (Sarah married him 29 February 1784)
