From the Vevay, Switzerland, Indiana, Centennial website:
George Ash, a former "captive" of the Shawnees, built Switzerland County's first brick house in 1798 and later operated a ferry across the river. Today, his home is one of Indiana's oldest extant houses.
See "A Darker View Of George Ash" blog post here.
"The Progress/Reveille account says the wife (erroneously called Ash's mother) was willing to accept George, but the father was not, because the settlers knew about George's participation in the raid in which Henry was killed."
See my blogpost, "Shawnee Captive George Ash, My Ancestress's Step-Child." Note: George Ash's step-mother was my ancestress, Mrs. Arabella Anderson Ash.
