Colonel Robert Chester of Tennessee...was born in 1793, and at the time of his death, in 1891, was the oldest affiliating mason in the United States. He was a relative by marriage and a great admirer of General Jackson. In 1884, he was the messenger from Tennessee to carry the electoral vote of the state to Washington; and his tall straight figure, courtly bearing, and white hair attracted wide attention at the nation's capital.
