Report of Lieutenant [M. R. ]Patrick [2nd Reg.] (1842) regarding settlements in Florida... . "They were in thirty-two villages...extending from St. Augustine west to...(near) Tallahassee, and advanced into what might be called the Indian country, as far as 30 miles south of Fort Brooke, Tampa Bay. This was Colonel Reid's settlement on the Manatee river...".
