Porter, Maryland, And Military Prison


Statement of George Porter (Substitute):

He enlisted in Baltimore, Maryland, as a substitute, on or about July 31, 1864, to serve 3 years.

  • $300 bounty
  • Sent to Camp Taylor, Virginia
  • Left Without Authority
  • Went To The Potomac And Swam To Washington, D.C.
  • Changed Into Civilian Clothing
  • Went To Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Depot
  • Arrested At Depot On Or About 6 August 1864 By A Detective
  • Taken To The Provost Marshal
  • Sent To Forest Hall, Georgetown
  • Then Sent To Prince St. Military Prison, Alexandria, Virginia
