Ancestry Of Deliverance Palmer? Not So Fast.

From The genealogy of the Cleveland and Cleaveland families: ...... (Volume I) Palmer ancestry of Deliverance Palmer (wife of Edward Cleveland) (Page 48) :

Palmer ancestry of Deliverance Palmer: --...PALMER: {Sussex, Eng.  Ralph Palmer possessed estates in Sussex, Eng, 1307}.  ....Hon. Walter (1) b. Eng. ab. 1585 of Charlestown, Mass., 1629...settled at Stonington, Conn....m. 2d ab. 1632 Rebecca Short....Capt. Benjamin (2) Palmer b. Charlestown, May 30, 1642, d. Stonington, Apr.10, 1716.
Palmer heraldry is included, but not transcribed.

This source indicated that because Benjamin Palmer, son of Walter and Rebecca (Short) Palmer, deeded his lands to his two nephews, he probably did not have children.  That does not bode well for identifying Capt. Benjamin (2) Palmer as Deliverance Palmer's father.

Deliverance (Palmer) Cleveland's entry at FindAGrave cites as her parents Captain Benjamin Palmer and Bethia Mowry.  Other sources indicate that Deliverance was the daughter of George Palmer and Bethia Mowry.  This message indicates problems with the second set of probable parents and poses the possibility that Deliverance's parents were Benjamin Palmer and Elizabeth Green.

So, even though I've identified Deliverance Palmer as my 8th great-grandmother, a positive identification of her parents still eludes me.

It just goes to show you that sometimes even the best in published genealogies can have questions within them. I've seen a number of mistakes in published genealogies over time.

But why do the mistakes pertain to my ancestry?! Good point, Jim.
