According to the book, Crapo, Henry Howland, Certain Comeoverers, 1912, Edward Tappan was one of the Minute Men who responded to the alarm of April 19, 1775, serving in Captain Moses Nowell's company.

Edward Toppan who married Sarah Bailey was an ancestor of Carrie Harris of Lapeer Co., Michigan and also related to the daughter-in-law of Governor Henry H. Crapo of Michigan.
