January 24, 1856 - Pres. Pierce declared Topeka gov. to be in rebellion.
April 1856 - Major Buford arrived with men from S.C., Georgia, Alabama.
May 24-25, 1856 - Pottawatomie Massacre; five killed.
July 4, 1856 - Topeka legislature dispersed by U.S. troops.
