"Governor Crapo purchased the 2,200 acres that comprise the Crapo farm back in 1860. At that time he was preaching the value of swamp lands to all the farmers in Michigan. It was his contention that low lands, properly drained, would become extremely valuable in time and would constitute as a grazing and breeding ground for herds. And backing up his stand the governor purchased the Crapo farm... ."
