"Memorial history of Augusta, Georgia ...:

The Georgia Gazette furnishes the following account of the affair: " This day a respectable body of the Sons of Liberty marched from this place (Augusta), to New Richmond, in South Carolina, in order to pay a visit to Thomas Brown and William Thompson, esqs, two young gentlemen, lately from England... ." "...and further, that he would do all in his power to discountenance the proceedings of a set of men in the Ninety-Sixth District in South Carolina, called Fletchell's Party; upon which, the said Browne was then discharged, and complimented with a horse and chair to ride home. But the said Thomas Browne, that time having publicly forfeited his honor and violated his oath voluntarily taken as aforesaid, is therefore not to be considered for the future in the light of a gentleman, and they, the said Thomas Browne and William Thompson are hereby published as persons inimical to the rights and liberties of America; and it is hoped all good men will treat them accordingly."
