Jumonville And The Glen

Grave Of Jumonville (NPS Sign)

The blood of M. de Jumonville was the first to shed in the Seven Years' War, a conflict that extended into every quarter of the globe. This unfortunate Frenchman was in command of a detachment of thirty-five men from the fort a few weeks hence to be called Fort Duquesne; and, in a night attack made upon encampment by a company of Virginians, under command of Washington, he, with several of his men, was slain--May 28th, 1754.
