Tennessee people will doubtless remember the magnificent mansion and grounds of the Acklen place in the suburbs of Nashville, the superior to which is hardly to be found anywhere.

| Acklin Home - Nashville |
He was a boy when the War of the Rebellion broke out, but at its conclusion went to Europe and was graduated from two foreign universities.
Being young, rich, eccentric and a bachelor, Mr. Acklen naturally created quite a furor in public as well as private circles at Washington during his Congressional career. Mr. Acklen occupied gorgeously-furnished quarters, and lived in princely style.
Dowagers with marriageable daughters fawned upon and courted his society, and he was omnipresent at all the entertainments given here during the fashionable season.
| Welcker Of Welcker's Restaurant |
One of Mr. Acklen's predelictions, however was a petit souper at Welcker's restaurant, and fair dames and demoiselles, without number, readily accepted invitations to enjoy his hospitality and share the exquisitely-cooked terrapin and other special dishes for which Welcker's is famous, not to mention Barsac, Chateau Yqueon, Mumm's Imperial and other wines and liqueurs which invariably accompanied an "Acklen" supper.
