*John Backus, Jr., was Dr. William Whiting's uncle by marriage.

Note: My grandkids are descendants of Miles Powell on their paternal side; they also have 3 ancestors named John Backus, a father, son and grandson (none of them are the John Backus mentioned above; all are descendants of William Backus the immigrant) on their maternal line.
