Church of Scotland Parish (St. Columba's Church, Kirkhill)
"The first members of the Church of Scotland parish of Lochiel Township, Glengarry County, were Gaelic speaking settlers who had come to the township from Gleneig, Inverness-shire, in 1796."

"These are the records of a totally Gaelic-speaking community and as a result may present some problems for those not familiar with the language.  These religious ceremonies were all performed in Gaelic and then recorded in English by the presiding clergyman who sometimes recorded the name in Gaelic, sometimes in English.  To assist understand the variances I have made a listing of these most frequently appearing."
