The next spring (1687) the first party of English was arrested on Lake Huron, and in June the second party was met on St. Clair River and captured. The French saw a commercial motive behind this en- croachment and declared that the whole was "an intrigue of the Orange merchants who [made] presents to the Colonel" [Dongan]. [Source]
