General Andrew Jackson Smith's Expedition

"...the expedition of General A. J. Smith to Tupelo, Miss., July, 1864...".

"...preparations were made for fitting out another expedition for the purpose of wiping out the disgrace and accomplishing the object sought — i. e., to defeat General Forrest's forces. This expedition was placed under the command of General A.J. Smith, who had won a most enviable reputation as a bold, judicious, and most vigorous fighter." [Source]
