Back Country Of Fort Christmas

House At Fort Christmas, Florida

Jeanette Hodges, 1887-1963*, was raised in Fort Christmas where she attended school.  She never married and taught school for 35 years, the last 20 years...in Miami, Florida.  After retiring she moved back to Fort Christmas where she continued to teach as a substitute teacher when needed at Union School.  She wrote a novel, "Back Country," based on pioneer life as she experienced it.

Per her memorial at FindAGrave:

"Julia was the daughter of William Leonard Hodges & Mary Frances Tucker Hodges who both died at a young age at Christmas, Fl."
