Platter's Civil War Diary

University of Georgia's Special Collections libraries, Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library, has several artifacts online, including the Cornelius C. Platter Civil War Diary (partial description from the library's website below).

"...Civil War diary of Lt. (later Capt.) Cornelius C. Platter, of the 81st Ohio Infantry Volunteers, from November, 1864 - April 27, 1865. Platter's diary details Sherman's march through Georgia from Rome to Savannah and the march north through the Carolinas."

"....We passed over historic ground today Ackworth. Big Shanty. & Kennesaw Mt [Mountain] - they looked very familiar - the two former were entirely destroyed by fire which was done by the "Yankee vandals"

"We are now certain that we are entirely cut off from communication with the north and are an isolated command."
