The principal Confederate agent in Canada at that time, was an ex-Member of Buchanan's administration. The contemptible conduct of this man (while still a member of the Government), in warning the rebels of Charleston of the sailing of the Steamer " Star of the West," with provisions for the besieged garrison at Fort Sumter, will furnish a good index to his character.
