$1,078,704.00 estate of Charles D. Backus was detailed in the New York Times, published June 5, 1917.
Chas. D. Backus (b. NY in Jany 1859), bank clerk, was living in Montclair, Essex Co., New Jersey, as a boarder in 1900. He was probably in Cortlandville, Cortland Co., NY, in 1880 (Charles D. Backus, age 21, bank clerk, living alone).
He was buried in Tompkins Co., NY, where my ancestor, John Backus, died. In 1870 there was a 15 year old Charles Backus living in Tompkins county with Charles, age 55, Hannah, age 53, and Hiram, age 22, Backus. An 11 year old Charley Backus was living with Brennard (?)* and Melinda Backus and others.
