Date: July 10, 1935 Page: 1 Column: 3
Summary: The New York Times recently recorded the death at Flint, Mich., of Dr. Joshua G. F. Manwaring, noted surgeon and one of the founders of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Manwaring was the grandson of Joshua Manwaring* of Lapeer, Mich., whose second wife was Margaret Fort**, sister of former Governor John Franklin Fort, and now a resident of Mount Holly. The Manwaring family emigrated from Burlington county to Michigan in the early forties of the last century. Joshua Manwaring's father was a farmer, but as the boys grew up he entered the lumber business and accumulated a large fortune. He was elected to the Michigan Senate and held other offices. Some score or more years ago, while visiting friends in New Jersey, he met Miss Fort and they were married. He died several years ago. - Newark Sunday Call.

This biography of Dr. Joshua Manwaring mentioned that his mother, Amy, had died in Kansas City, Missouri, and that his father, George, was a successful merchant in Sedgewick, Kansas. Missouri has death records online; Amy (Kinnee) Manwaring's death record mentioned that she was born in Canada in January of 1854 (died 14 May 1911 and buried in Imlay City [Lapeer Co., MI]) and that her father was Jacob Kinnee.
The marriage of George & Amy (Kinnee) Manwaring took place in Ontario, Canada. An extract of that record can be found online.

*Joshua Manwaring's death record at "Seeking Michigan." His brief biography, found here, mentioned his birth, in 1824, in Burlington, New Jersey, the same location where the paper (and source of Joshua Manwaring, grandson of Joshua Manwaring born in 1824) was published.
**Margaret Brown Fort, b. 23 October 1853, in Burlington, NJ, daughter of Andrew & Hannah (Brown) Fort (Source: IGI) Andrew was the son of Andrew & Nancy/Ann (Platt) Fort. The mother of Margaret's husband was Susan (Platt) Manwaring -- any relationship between Nancy Platt & Susan Platt? Probably, but undetermined by me at this time.
