The widow, Lucy, was John Butterfield's second wife. He and his first wife, Esther Ann Moore, divorced. Esther married 2nd Leander John Forbes and lived in Clinton Co., Michigan.Mrs. Lucy Butterfield, nee Rider, was the daughter of James & Patty (Bouton) Rider. She was born in Victory, Cayuga Co., New York, in 1835. Lucy married 1st Abram Fox and had Kitty (Aselia), Mary and Charles. The Fox family was living in Hannibal, Oswego Co., NY, in 1860. By 1870 Lucy was married to John Butterfield and living in Wayne Co., Michigan, as were her children. After John died in September 1882, Lucy married 3rd Marinus Harrison of Wayne Co., Michigan.
The children of John & Esther (Moore) Butterfield are listed in the probate file. A search of the Missouri Death Records online through the MO Secretary of State for Orilla Patterson, daughter of John & Esther Butterfield, revealed her mother's maiden name. Daughter Elizabeth Butterfield Stiles is an ancestor of my son-in-law's aunt.
