IL Soldiers' and Sailors' Home Resident Leonidas S. Hinds

Civil War veteran Leonidas S. Hinds, of Harrisburg, Saline County, Illinois, was a resident of the Illinois Soldiers' and Sailors' Home in Quincy, Illinois, after being admitted on October 13, 1911 (see paperwork below).  Leonidas Hinds was a Union soldier in Co. F. of the 6th Illinois Cavalry.


Leonidas Speaker Hinds was the son of Samuel & Taletha (Davis) Hinds and the grandson of William and Elizabeth (Acklin) Hinds.  He was also (my ancestor's) James A. Rice's cousin.

L. S. Hines (Hinds), age 22, a farmer born in Tennessee, and his wife, Sarah, age 18, born in Illinois, who were married within the year, were living at T9R7E in Saline County, Illinois, in 1860.
