Peter Audrain and the Whiskey Rebellion….
A document in the George Knaggs [see Knaggs post below] estate was signed by Peter Audrain, J.P. (Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan). Peter Audrain was born in France, and upon coming to America he took the oath of allegiance, Oct. 2, 1781. He lived for a time at Pittsburgh, and one of the earliest maps of that place has his name on it as a land owner. He took some of the testimony relative to the Whiskey Insurrection, and came to Detroit with Wayne’s army in 1796. [Mich Pioneer Colls, 1888]
