Civil War soldier Norman Benedict (1839 - 1862), of the 2nd Michigan Cavalry, was buried in the Keokuk National Cemetery in Keokuk, Iowa.
The (Old) National Cemetery at Keokuk was one of the original 12 National Cemeteries designated by the U.S. Congress and established in the Civil War era.

Norman Benedict's mother (Electa) applied for a pension on April 8, 1870, based upon Norman's military service.
