Looking For John Johnson's Roots

An ancestor, John Johnson, was born about 1793 in Georgia. The birthplace was determined from census records as was the date of birth. Another researcher had narrowed John’s birthplace as Pulaski County, Georgia, but that county was formed in 1808. Since his parents have not been identified yet, a search for all Johnsons in wills, deeds, tax lists, etc., in Georgia counties that exited in the 1700’s is one research route. Consulting historical maps (and here and here , at various times "Georgia" extends to the Mississippi River.

John Johnson was married in Tennessee about 1814; was he with his parents when he left Georgia? John Johnson married Mary (“Polly”) Greer, a girl who had relatives in Greene County, Georgia (Aquilla Greer).

Pulaski Co., GA, formed 13 Dec 1808 from Laurens Co.
Laurens Co. formed Dec 1807 from Baldwin & Wilkinson
Baldwin Co. & Wilkinson formed 1803 after the Creek cessions
