What To Bring West In 1846

An historical article based upon travelling to Michigan in 1846 found in Michigan History, Volume 5 gave advice to subsequent travelers:

"Bring dry yeast -- you can't get it on the road... ."

There was also a description of the "mint industry" found along the way:  "In Florence they raise mint, each farmer stills his own oil and sells it to New York agents."

Thanks, Carol. Don't you just love that Michigan was the "west" back then!
