ABRAHAM ALDERMAN
Abraham Alderman who died at his home in Orleans, on Saturday night, and whose funeral took place Tuesday, was born in Ancaster, Canada, April 24th, 1828, and was therefore at the time of his death in the 54th year of his age. His father Bucklin Alderman* was born in Connecticut, and his mother Mary (Stirling) Alderman in Steuben county, New York. The family consisting of the parents and four children, of whom Abraham was one, removed to Detroit Jan. 5, 1834, and the father died there in 1838. Mrs. Alderman removed to Highland, Oakland county, the same year. The subject of this sketch was married Jan. 1, 1849, to Miss Lydia M. Maynard, of Farmington, who survives him. In 1854 he removed to North Plains, Ionia county, and lived there until a few years since, when he purchased the farm where he died. He was one of a family of four children only two of whom are living, viz.,: William Alderman of North Plains and Mrs. Wm. Bush of Sebewa. His mother is living in her 80th year. Two children survive him: a son, Frank, and a daughter, Mrs. Darius [Ida] Welch.

Mr. Alderman has always been a prominent and active citizen of the county. He served the people as sheriff three terms and was for several years deputy United States marshal. Recently he has had many friends who warmly supported him as a candidate for the position of warden of the state house in correction. He has been very fortunate in his business and must have left a handsome property.

The illness which caused his death has been of several months duration, and having a remarkably strong constitution it appeared that he would pull through, but he had to succumb to the foe which sooner or later cuts down all.
