Georgia's Lost Regiment In The Civil War

The Roscommon News (Roscommon, MI) published ca 1888 had a series of articles entitled "The Campfire Papers," concerning events that transpired during the Civil War. The June 1, 1888, article, "Georgia's Lost Regiment," about a Union regiment centered in the northern Georgia mountains intrigued me.

The Union troops of Georgia, commanded by Colonel James H. Brown, were decimated near Cartersville, Georgia, by Confederate General William Tatum Wofford. More detail about Georgia's Union regiment, as well as company rosters, can be found here.

General Wofford is buried in Cassville, Georgia (close to Cartersville). We visited his grave while camping at the nearby KOA on I-75 (pictures of the grave & accompanying historical marker below).
