Clark Cleaveland, War of 1812 Veteran

While geocaching near McPherson Cemetery in Sandusky, Ohio, we noticed the gravestone of Clark Cleaveland, a War of 1812 veteran. At the time I thought it was quite likely that we shared mutual ancestors, Moses & Ann (Winn) Cleaveland, and we did. What I did not know at the time is that we also shared Backus and Spencer ancestors.

A comprehensive book of Cleaveland descendants by Edmund James, entitled The genealogy of the Cleveland and Cleaveland families : ...and a genealogical account of Edward Winn ...1899, can be found online at HeritageQuest. More information can be found here and here. Another ancestry of Clark Cleaveland is found here.

Ancestors of Tabitha Spencer Cleaveland, Clark Cleaveland's mother, include William Backus and Gerrard Spencer, who are my ancestors, too. More about the Spencer lineage can be found here and here. Additional Backus information is linked here.
